I successfully ended 2023 by passing the VMware advanced exam based on NSX-T 3.x, which made me become a new VCAP-NV Deploy certified, but also a VCIX-NV as I previously passed the advanced design exam.

It’s actually been a while since I thought of taking that exam and I’m glad I finally did it 😃.

As I usually publish exam review posts after passing an exam, this time is no exception and I’m happy to share with you my experience.

vSAN Max is Now Generally Available!

At VMware Explore Las Vegas 2023, VMware announced a new offering from the vSAN family: “vSAN Max“.

vSAN Max is now generally available to support the storage needs of your more demanding applications running on vSphere clusters.

Following the recent acquisition of VMware by Broadcom, the portfolio has now been simplified with 2 major offerings: VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) and VMware vSphere Foundation (VVF).

vSAN can now be leveraged through VCF or as an add-on with VMware vSphere Foundation.

What is NSX Application Platform and how to proceed for deployment?

VMware released starting NSX-T Data Center v3.2 a new feature named “NSX Application Platform“. But what is this new functionality about, and what value does it bring to a NSX environment?

Well, to provide more security services in a more efficient way, VMware has decided to create NSX Application Platform (NAP) which is a container-based environment running on a Kubernetes cluster.

Talking about new security capabilities, what are exactly those features.

There are four features in total that can be added to an existing NSX setup, and it’s up to you to decide which ones you’d like to install after the deployment of NSX Application Platform.

  • VMware NSX® Malware Prevention
  • VMware NSX®  Intelligence
  • VMware NSX® Metrics

Farewell NSX-T! Now Welcome VMware NSX!

VMware released NSX 4.0 a few days ago, and took that opportunity to rename the product “VMware NSX“, replacing the well-known NSX-T Data Center.

As many of you know by now, NSX-V (NSX for vSphere) is no longer supported since earlier this year and many customers have already started the transition to migrate from NSX-V to NSX-T. There is then no reason to keep the name NSX-T Data Center and it makes more sense to simply keep “NSX”.

What’s new in NSX 4.0

NSX 4.0 is a major release with new networking and security features as well as some enhancements.

VMware Certified Master Specialist – HCI 2022 (5V0-21.21) Exam Review

A few weeks ago, I successfully passed the 5V0-21.21 exam which is mainly based on vSAN 7, which awarded me the title of Master Specialist HCI for the first time 😃.

What is HCI Mesh in vSAN 7 Update 2?

VMware released with vSAN 7 Update 2 a new feature called HCI Mesh to provide better scaling capabilities in a vSAN environment.

Before vSAN 7 Update 2, there’s always been a very tight integration between vSphere and vSAN that made both products dependent from each other, and it wasn’t possible either to consume storage from one vSAN cluster to another.

Now things have changed with HCI Mesh as a non-vSAN Cluster can now take advantage of a remote vSAN cluster to start provisioning VMs to a remote vSAN datastore.
